MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola turned a soccer news conference on Tuesday into a passionate address on the “hurt” he is feeling at seeing humanitarian tragedies around the world.
The United States government has tried to justify the killing of Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse. Kristi Noem, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said he was a “domestic terrorist,” while Donald Trump said he was “perhaps” an “insurrectionist”.
Pep Guardiola has spoken out on global conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan and criticised Donald Trump for recent killings in the United States. He also addressed Manchester City’s form and refereeing issues.
Guardiola has used his platform to advocate for philanthropic causes in the past and he gave an impassioned plea, referencing Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan and the victims of the shootings by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis.
Pep Guardiola has lavished praise on his former players Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane ahead of their Etihad return on Wednesday.
Again, though, City collapsed after the restart and allowed an improved Spurs to share the spoils. Pep Guardiola’s side continue to act unlike title winners, so their best chance of silverware this season may be the domestic cups.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has vowed to keep speaking out on humanitarian issues because of the "hurt" caused to the victims of global conflicts.
