Julian Assange has been released from his UK prison on bail, after reaching a plea deal with US authorities, who have demanded his extradition. He has agreed to plead guilty to a single count of conspiracy “to obtain and disseminate national defence information”, and will appear before a court in the Northern Mariana Islands, an American territory in the Pacific. He is due to be sentenced to five years and two months in prison, with credit for the same amount of time spent behind bars in the UK.
